Get your money’s worth out of your mission. If your mission statement was written even a few years ago, review it to see if it still accurately reflects what you do. If it’s out of date, refresh or rework it. For suggestions on how to cost-effectively conduct a mission review, see our white paper at: https://m1.auctionpay.com/mk/get/FUNDEXCELLENCE_PT5.
Now leverage the heck out of that mission! Look at every aspect of your organization to make sure that every part of it is optimized to carry out your mission. Step outside of your day-to-day and, with fresh eyes, look critically at processes, marketing, personnel, volunteers, etc. An established process is great, but is your organization wed to that process just because “this is the way we’ve always done it,” or because it really works efficiently?
Perhaps you can call on a savvy volunteer to help with the review. Or, hold a brainstorming session with your team and ask them beforehand to each bring at least one new idea to the meeting. Your team could be executing the way they’ve always done simply out of habit.
Albert Einstein once said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. A few simple changes can make everyone refocus on the mission, refresh and enliven the entire organization, save you money and time-and reduce insanity.
